Hopefully the fittings on the tank will reflect the proper line sizes. FYI. Looks like I have (1) 1/4" and (2) 1/8" outlets. The 1/4" was plugged and the (2) 1/8" were return and feed.Pretty sure the M38 requires the 5/8-inch spacer to mount properly (ensures proper fuel pressure and volume). Pretty sure it also requires pre-loading the diapghram. Both procedures are covered in the M38 TM. As is troubleshooting and measuring the pump for proper pressure and volume. As I understand it, the band IS there to cover the end of the slot, which acts as a breather hole for the steering gear. The band is to prevent dirt from falling directly into the hole.
